H. E. Ambassador Chen Yuming's Speech at the Signing Ceremony of Blaiken Wind Power Project
2014/06/11

(June 10, 2014)

Respected Minister Eva Bjorling,

Mr. CEO Hans Kreisel and Vice President Han Zhiqiao,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a great pleasure for me to be here for the signing ceremony of Blaiken wind power project jointly constructed by Sweden and China's enterprises.

Firstly I would like to congratulate Skelleftea Kraft AB and DEC on this huge achievement on behalf of the Embassy of People's Republic of China in Sweden .

Over the past decade, wind power has been given great importance as a key means to face the environmental challenges with low-carbon energy.

In 2013, the global wind power installed capacity increased by 12.4% over 2012. China has also experienced a rapid development period of wind power. Also in 2013, new installed wind power capacity in China reached 16 million kilowatts, which is an yearly increase of 24.1%; In the meantime, the cumulative installed capacity achieved 91.4 million kilowatts, which is an increase of 21.4% . These two figures ranks the first in the world. At the same time, more and more Chinese wind turbine manufacturers extend their fans to overseas market .

Sweden, with abundant resources of hydropower and wind energy, as well as a great awareness of using clean energy and advanced technology, has pioneered application of new energy in the world.

By 2020, the estimated cumulative installed wind power capacity in Sweden will reach 10 million kilowatts and the total wind power will reach 20Twh (1Twh = 10 billion kilowatts-hour),which means great potential for new energy enterprises.

Both China and Sweden are committed to strengthening cooperation in new energy and green tech.

During the visit by former President Hu Jintao to Sweden in 2007, the two governments signed the Memorandum on Environmental Cooperation.

In 2012, the Green Tech and Energy Saving Working Group was set up under China -Sweden Economic and Trade Commission to implement the related work. The two countries' green tech enterprises have also been constructive in pushing things forward. We are glad to see that Chinese wind turbines are now used in Sweden.

As one of the largest production base for power generation equipment in China, DEC is very competitive in wind turbine manufacturing. Today, Blaiken wind power project is the largest order obtained by a Chinese Company in Sweden, and I believe that a success of this project tomorrow will help promote the "China made" wind turbines in the international market and further deepen cooperation and technical exchanges in new energy between our two countries.

As always, Chinese Embassy in Sweden will provide full support and efforts, together with all parties concerned, to make this project a great and lasting success.

Thank you.
