| Spokesperson's Remarks on Defeating yet another Proposal for Taiwan's "Representation" in the UN (2003/09/18) |
|
On September 18th,
the General Committee of the 58th United Nations General
Assembly refused to list on the agenda of this year's UN
General Assembly the proposal submitted by Gambia and a
handful of other countries for the so-called Taiwan's
"representation" in the UN. This again proves that
one China is a basic principle universally followed in the
international community. It demonstrates the firm
determination of the vast number of UN members to safeguard
the UN Charter and Resolution NO.2758 of the UN General
Assembly.
There is but one China in the world. Both the Mainland and Taiwan belong to one China. China's sovereignty and territorial integrity bears no division. It bears upon the fundamental interest of the Chinese nation to maintain national unification. Attempts to create "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan" in the world are absolutely unacceptable to all Chinese people, including our 23 million Taiwancompatriots. |
