March 20, 2000-- Chinese President Jiang Zemin  reiterated in Beijing on March 20 that dialogues and negotiations  across the Taiwan Straits should have a basis, namely, one China  principle must first be recognized, and under this prerequisite,  every thing can be discussed.

The Chinese president said this while holding talks with the visiting Congolese president Denis Sassau-nguesso.
