Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan

On September 7, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister held talks with Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi of Pakistan on the sidelines of the third China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue in Islamabad.

Wang Yi expressed, the special friendship between China and Pakistan has stood the test of international vicissitudes and is as firm as a rock and unbreakable. In the face of the current complex and volatile international and regional situation, China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership is of greater strategic significance. The Chinese side will, as always, firmly support the Pakistani side in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, firmly support the Pakistani government in maintaining domestic stability and accelerating economic development, and firmly support Pakistan in playing a more constructive role in regional and international affairs.

Wang Yi pointed out, the Chinese side is ready to work with the Pakistani side to well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries, strengthen strategic communication and notes-comparing, and maintain close communication at all levels. We will deepen practical cooperation across the board, promote the building of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and make it a demonstration project of high-quality building of the Belt and Road Initiative. We should strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs to safeguard our common interests. The two countries should further enrich China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership in light of the changing situation and respective development needs, build a closer China-Pakistan community of shared future in the new era and make new contributions to regional peace, stability and development.

Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi congratulated the People's Republic of China on the 70th anniversary of its founding. He said, Pakistan and China are the closest friends and "iron brothers", and bilateral all-weather strategic cooperation is an anchor of regional stability. Pakistan actively supports the construction of the CPEC, highly appreciates the huge benefits brought by the project, and is willing to work with the Chinese side to accelerate the Gwadar Port and other key projects. Chinese enterprises are welcome to expand investment in Pakistan. The Pakistani side is willing to continue to take effective measures to help solve the practical difficulties encountered by Chinese enterprises in Pakistan, and effectively protect the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan. The Pakistani side welcomes the Chinese side's constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in South Asia, and is willing to continue to enhance coordination and cooperation on regional and international affairs with the Chinese side and firmly support the Chinese side in maintaining its own core interests.

The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in Kashmir. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi briefed on the Pakistani side's views and propositions. Wang Yi stressed that the Chinese side attaches importance to the Pakistani side's legitimate concerns, and reiterated the Chinese side's consistent position on the issue.
