Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on SVT's False Reporting on Xinjiang
2019/11/26

We noticed that SVT recently hyped up Xinjiang-related issues once again and reported the absurd claims of Sayragul Sauytbay, which discredited and attacked China’s measures to fight terrorism and extremism in accordance with law and maintain social stability in Xinjiang. We firmly oppose it.

We have explained our position on Xinjiang-related issues many times. Faced with severe threats of terrorism and extremism, the government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China has taken a series of counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures according to law, including the establishment of vocational education and training centers. Through education and training in accordance with law and regulations, the government helps people affected by extremist and terrorist ideas return to society and a normal life. In almost three years, not a single violent and terrorist incident took place in Xinjiang. The region now enjoys social stability and unity among all ethnic groups, and people there are living a good life. Over 1,000 foreign diplomats, international organization officials and media personnel visited Xinjiang and witnessed the remarkable results achieved by the preventive counter-terrorism and de-radicalization measures.

Sayragul Sauytbay has never worked at any vocational and training center and was never detained before leaving China. The fact is clear that she is suspected of credit fraud and illegal border-crossing crimes. In order to avoid the measures by Chinese judicial authorities and to find excuses for her refugee status application, Sayragul Sauytbay made up a lot of lies to discredit the Chinese Government. Her words are totally untrustworthy, and her deeds are shameless.

We once again solemnly urge SVT not to provide platform for false anti-China political propaganda. We hope that those who do not know the truth of the counter-terrorism and de-radicalization situation in Xinjiang will take off their colored glasses, abandon ideological prejudice, and stop using Xinjiang-related issues to smear and attack China.
