Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on Disturbance Caused by a Small Number of People in Sweden Regarding the Gui Minhai Case
2019/10/17

A small number of people in Sweden again made disturbance outside the Embassy regarding the Gui Minhai case, which we firmly oppose.

We reiterate that the rule of law is the fundamental principle in handling the Gui Minhai case. This case can only and must be handled by the Chinese judicial authorities in accordance with Chinese law and procedures. This is a matter of the rule of law and China’s judicial sovereignty that admits of no doubt nor challenge. The fact that a small number of people again caused disturbance near the Embassy regarding this case once again shows their lack of common sense about the rule of law. They call white black, spread fear and hatred, and attempt to interfere in China's internal affairs.

There is a Chinese saying, "just a bit of a mouse's dropping will spoil a whole saucepan of broth." The healthy and stable development of China-Sweden relations is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples and must not be hijacked by the very few anti-China elements using the Gui Minhai case. It is hoped that these very few people have some awareness of the rule of law, pay more attention to the increasingly serious safety issue in Sweden, help the Swedish Government and Police fight various criminal behaviors, and safeguard the rule of law in Sweden. We hope that people from all walks of life in Sweden will not be blinded by the political provocations of very few anti-China elements and will work together to promote mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between China and Sweden.
