2018/04/20

On 19 April, Ambassador Gui Congyou hosted an award ceremony at the Chinese Embassy and presented prizes to 14 Chinese students in Sweden who won the 2017 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-funded Students Abroad.

Ambassador Gui expressed warm congratulations to the prize winners, and through them his cordial greetings to their families and sincere appreciation to their Swedish instructors for their hard work.

Ambassador Gui said 14 self-funded Chinese students in Sweden winning the award fully demonstrates that Chinese students studying in Sweden are of excellent skills, great competency, and high quality. After 40 years of reform and opening-up and arduous struggle, especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has undergone tremendous changes in society and economy. In 2017, China maintained its position as the world's second largest economy with 82.71 trillion yuan of GDP, and Chinese people's lives have basically reached a moderately prosperous level. Chinese students studying abroad are lucky to live in this good times. Not only have they enjoyed a good education at home, they have also been able to travel across the oceans to study in Sweden. At present, China is moving toward the center of the world stage on the track of rapid development. The 19th CPC National Congress in October last year has laid out a grand blueprint for China's development in the next 30 years. The Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation has never been so clearly presented to us as it is today. In this invigorating and inspiring era, the vast overseas students, as a powerful force for building a great modern socialist country, bear the hope of their families and the trust of the motherland. Ambassador Gui hoped that they would play their part in building a prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, harmonious, and beautiful China, while striving to realize personal ideals and life values.

Wu Lichuan, on behalf of all the award-winning students, expressed his gratitude to the instructors for their patient nurturing. He also said that as an overseas student, he has followed closely the development of the motherland and is always thinking about how to apply his knowledge in practice to make contribution to the development of the country. During the four years as a PhD applicant, he has grown in both academics and life. The honor of winning the award is a new beginning. In the future, he will continue to do a good job in scientific research, and make contribution to the development of the motherland and China-Sweden relations.

Professor Hägg and Professor Rutgersson, on behalf of the Swedish instructors, said that Chinese students have a solid academic foundation, work hard, and actively integrate themselves into Swedish culture and society. They are a precious resource for Sweden. Through years of getting along and mutual learning, Swedish instructors and Chinese students have established deep relationships. They are happy to see students growing up as independent scientific researchers and wish everyone more academic achievements in the future.
