On March 23, according to the proposal of Chinese Embassy, Ambassador Gui Congyou met with Swedish State Secretary Robert Rydberg at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Gui lodged solemn representation with the Swedish Government over EU's Sanctions against China.

Ambassador Gui sternly pointed out that Xinjiang-related issues are never about ethnicity, religion or human rights but about combating terrorism, extremism and secession. As an old Chinese saying goes, you reap what you sow. The sanctions on relevant Chinese individuals and entity imposed by the EU side were based on lies and disinformation fabricated by very few individuals. The Chinese side had to make countermeasures on relevant individuals and entities from the countries of EU, including Sweden.

Ambassador Gui urged the Swedish side and the EU side to face squarely the severity of their mistake and redress it. They must stop lecturing China on human rights and interfering in China's internal affairs. The Chinese government is firmly determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests.
