Chinese Embassy Spokesperson's Remarks on 5G Issues Concerning Chinese Companies in Sweden
2020/10/20

For some time, some people in Sweden have been trumping up claims that equipments supplied by Chinese companies, such as Huawei and ZTE, pose “threats to national security”, but are unable to present any concrete evidence. Over the years, Huawei, ZTE and other Chinese companies have been actively promoting information and communications cooperation between China and Sweden, and have been making positive contributions to infrastructure development in Sweden. They never posed any “threat” to Sweden’s national security.

We firmly object to abusing the concept of “national security”, and to excluding specific companies from specific countries without any factual basis or evidence. We oppose violating market principles and fair competition, cracking down on Chinese companies on facricated charges, and obstructing cooperation.

We urge the Government of Sweden to comply with market principles of open development and fair competition, revisit its decisions, and provide an open, fair, impartial and non-discriminatory business environment to Chinese companies, to safeguard the mutual opening between China and Sweden.
