Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Stefan Lofven of Sweden

On June 26, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Stefan Lofven of Sweden.

Xi Jinping welcomed Stefan Lofven to attend the Summer Davos Forum in China, and pointed out that Sweden was the first Western country to forge diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. Shaping a healthy, stable and sustainable China-Sweden relationship not only meets the national interests of both countries, but also helps promote a comprehensive development of China-Northern Europe cooperation and China-Europe relations. It is hoped that both sides could continuously treat bilateral relations with a long-term view and carry out bilateral cooperation in various fields with innovative thinking under the new situation, so as to constantly elevate bilateral relations to new stages. China is willing to, together with Sweden, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, conduct dialogues and communication based on the principles of mutual respect and equal treatment and enhance mutual understanding. The Chinese side appreciates Sweden for adhering to the one-China policy, hopes both sides to respect each other's social system and development path and take care of each other's core interests and major concerns. Xi Jinping proposed to combine China's "13th Five-Year Plan", innovation-driven development strategy and "Made in China 2025", with Sweden's Smart Industry strategy. The two countries should strengthen cooperation in such areas as clean energy, smart city, life sciences, green finance, high-speed railway and spaceflight, enhance cultural exchanges and cooperation in tourism, winter sports and other fields. China is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with Sweden within frameworks of the UN and the Arctic Council.

Xi Jinping stressed that China wants Europe to be prosperous, stable and open. Both China and Europe need to continuously advance the construction of four major partnerships of peace, growth, reform and civilization, in a bid to inject positive energy into world stability. China stands ready to enhance policy communication with Sweden and other Northern European countries, so as to promote China-Northern Europe cooperation for new results.

Stefan Lofven expressed condolences for catastrophic landslide occurred in Mao County on June 24, and said that both Sweden and China enjoy a long-term friendship. Sweden attaches importance to China's influence in major international and regional affairs, and cooperation with China within multilateral frameworks including the UN. Under the new situation, Sweden devotes itself to deepening cooperation with China in various fields including economy, trade, innovation, culture, sports and tourism as well as in Arctic affairs.
