Remarks by Ambassador Gui Congyou at the Reception for the Ph.D. Summer School of the 4th Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform
2018/08/21

Distinguished Prof. Stefan Östlund, Vice President of KTH,

Distinguished Prof. Zhang Ze, Member of Chinese Academy of Science and Chair of Academic Committee of Zhejiang University,

Teachers and students,

Today, the Ph.D. Summer School of the 4th Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform (SEEEP), co-hosted by KTH, Eindhoven University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University officially starts. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden, I would like to congratulate on its opening and a warm welcome to the teachers and students.

SEEEP is a platform jointly established by the Chinese Ministry of Education and CLUSTER. It aims to promote university cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and European doctor candidates and university cooperation, so as to pool strength from Chinese and European engineering education and look for solutions to challenges facing humanity in the 21st century, such as energy, health and aging population. I would like to pay my sincere respect to you, as your work has great value and foresight.

My Embassy has always attached great importance to and supported educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Europe, especially with Sweden. In May 2017, Chinese Minister of Education Mr. Chen Baosheng and his Swedish counterpart Helene Knutsson signed the MOU on Research and Education Cooperation Between the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Education and Research of the Kingdom of Sweden in Beijing. The two sides agreed to step up cooperation of various types and at all levels, including engineering.Last May, the two education ministries held the first round of education policy dialogue. We are delighted to see that thanks to joint efforts from the two countries, education exchanges and cooperation continue to grow, with closer communication between Chinese and Swedish scholars and students, which led to a number of encouraging outcomes.

SEEEP and its summer school are important platforms and channels for greater China-EU exchanges and cooperation. I hope the students and professors of the program will communicate with and learn from each other, make valuable scientific discoveries, generate pioneering thinking and find solutions to challenges faced by mankind. Let us work together for the development and cooperation in engineering education between China and EU, and for a brighter future of mankind!

To conclude, I would like to wish all the success for the program and all of you a bumper harvest of knowledge.
